Hello TSC!
I am Jesca Mariah Garcia Mañego, please, just call me Jesca, unless you want to call me by my whole name where people would definitely throw a weird facial expression at you upon hearing it, haha!
I had an earshot of what The Story Circle is since I started to join a group of street magicians in Rizal. (TSC is pretty much talk of the town.) Where Dave Bertumen my co-street magician in PSOSM, also a certified TSC member; as my favorite magician back in the old days (well, still on the list, your fork is still with me, haha!) had been incredibly performing wonders during our round-robin in every gathering.
I am fully aware that The Story Circle is producing highly skilled and professional magicians in the industry (Dave as the living proof, I was blown away with the standard.), since then, I pretty admired the thought that has formed in my head with regards to this group and the people behind it, as a novice I know that it would be impossible for me to succeed in becoming a part of this organization. It felt so far and unreachable.
BUT WAIT. I have to cut somebody some slack. So this happened.
I was tickled pink from what I have figured out, September 24, 2016 had been a huge turning point in my magical life, at the drop of a hat, I knew, what I've found is family. Thank you Chris Lina for encouraging me to do magic again, indeed, it was really too early to give up. Your honest conman invited me over to attend the rehearsal (for Friday The 13th show), though days before September 24, September 16, 2016 to be exact, he started lighting up the wick of my desire to pursue magic.
A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.
I'm from Taytay, Rizal. I can't help but feel grateful about this place. It's where my magical journey began. Here's how I was drawn to this magical world.
I'm not sure if it's around November or December 2014, when I first laid my hand on a gimmick. I was wandering around that place called "tiangge" in Taytay, looking for some random stuffs to buy, I had this idea to drop by to visit a friend and his magic shop, Serg Manalastas, I was always fascinated by the idea of magic, I heard that his shop was a stone's throw to success, plus I've been thinking of ways on how to put a smile on the faces of my nieces and nephew, that had been pretty much my goal and the reason why I was determined to learn magic at that time, to make them happy. After showing them everything I've got, I became stagnant.
Then an angel arrived, Patrick "Coke" Campugan,a schoolmate, from the HRM department also a magician figured out that I was practicing magic, without hesitation he added me up on Philippine Society of Street Magicians, from there I was exposed to street magic and fell in love with it, it's where I also met Virol and Nomer.
May 1, 2015 is the first time I went out there to perform magic in the streets and it made me feel so alive to be able to witness people smiling, happy with these little things we could offer.
Then this and that happened, so I stopped. I felt like I don't belong anymore. Been hearing soooo many things on the grapevine and got tired of sitting on the fence.
After a verrryyyyy veeeeryyyy veeerrryyyy long time of giving up on magic.
August 14, 2016 unexpectedly came. Me and my old mates have been reunited and reconciled. I had left the chips fall where they may, and this and that happened, I have been chuffed to bits at first then suddenly some things had gotten out of hand and there was chaos.
I should thank that chaos anyway, cause it led me to a conversation last September 16, that pulled me back to where my heart really belongs, and it's the world of magic. That chaos also made me exist last September 24, October 1 and last but not the least the grand day itself, October 7, 2016.
If people would ask me why I wanted to pursue magic now, aside from the fact that I've found a family who's really going to take care of me (With an additional constructive criticism to make me strong and better.) I would still give the same answer. I wanted to see people happy, the world needs it.
I'm still in love with the idea of street magic, it's where I think magic is really needed, but from what I've seen for the past few weeks, I am more than eager to explore. I know I shouldn't bite off more than I can chew, but I couldn't help it, I wanted magic back in my life.
I'm finally willing to go the extra mile to learn what I should have learned back then, I'm digging in my heels for that. It's about time to leave no stone unturned!
Chris Lina is my mentor, and I really appreciate everyone who's trying to help me get better.
I'm currently gathering materials or magic repertoire these days, a deeper immersion to gain knowledge about the art , trying to familiarize myself with magic terminologies and etc. Again, extending my warm appreciation for the people who's helping me out with all these beginner's stuff, you know who you are.
I've decided to focus on cards right now.
It's a shape up or ship out phase for me.
There's soooo much more to get to know about me. But I'm saving it for the future gatherings I am about to attend.
Looking forward to a never letting go kind of relationship with magic, after all I've found a family here, and you just don't give up on family.
I may not be part of the circle YET, like what somebody told me. But I really am glad to be a part of the story, and I'm forever grateful for that.
